Only in America

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Only in America”?  Once meant to laud the many benefits of living in the U. S. of A., the expression has transmogrified into exasperation for our politically correct society that eats its own.

America is the land of freedom and opportunity — but only to the immigrants who come knocking at our doors, flooding our shorelines, and overrunning our borders.  Those who hail from foreign lands are treated far better than U.S. citizens.  Citizens seeking opportunities are told that they must possess the minimum of a Master’s degree, along with a whole lot of luck, in order to succeed here.  Non-citizens, however, are invited to apply for and receive all forms of assistance at the expense of American-born taxpayers.   Only in America!

Illegal aliens only need speak two words of English upon infiltrating our borders.  The magic words, “political asylum” immediately grant them the protection, nay, the mollycoddling of our government!  Our lawmakers spare no expense — the taxpayers’ expense, that is — in righting whatever wrongs the n’er-do-wells have committed in their own lands.  No matter how the aliens pronounce them, those magic words are the equivalent of a get out of jail free card.  Only in America!

While Americans beat and beat and beat the bushes in the job market, the tasks they once performed have been outsourced to foreigners who are ill-equipped to do those jobs.   Just ask any American who has been raked over the coals in Call Center Hell.  The rift in language and culture ensures that any inquiry takes four or more times longer to receive an intelligent response and any transaction, four or more times longer to complete, than had an American done the job.   And yet, far too many Americans from sea to shining sea remain unemployed.  Only in America!

Citizens of this nation who fought and are still fighting for our freedoms should not have to compete with slave labor to enjoy the fruits of our country.  Other counties demand citizenship of their job seekers, but not us.  Only in America!

What other nation permits public demonstrations without fear of punishment: the same right exercised by citizens?  What other country allows foreign languages to be spoken and posted publicly?  What other country allows banking, credit card, other financial transactions, and driving tests to occur in foreign languages?  Only in America!

What other country apologizes to the world for its arrogance and self-interests, even after we spilled American blood to save other nations in World War II — and then spent American dollars in reparations to rebuild their countries?  Only in America!

We are the only country that harbors homeless natives with no shelter, children who go to bed hungry, the mentally ill who suffer without treatment, seniors struggling with the costs of health care, energy bills, food, mortgages, and taxes, and a middle class grappling to make ends meet.  When Haiti got hit with earthquakes this past April, America covered the destruction on every news channel and jumped to provide over $100 million dollars in food, clothing, supplies, medical care, and more.  This sum is over six times more than the next most generous country, France!  A short while later, Tennessee and Arkansas were hit by devastating floods, but were aided only by church groups and individual citizens.  And let us not forget how our government cooled its jets and studied its fingernails for a week while so many people died and suffered in New Orleans as a result of Hurricane Katrina.  Only in America!

The U.S. Congress gives standing ovations to foreign dignitaries denouncing U.S. law, and does so after said dignitaries have been invited to eat our food and drink our wine at the White House.  This could happen, as you guessed it, only in America!

When the President of the United States publicly deplores Arizona’s recent immigration law, which prizes the rights of those who have long contributed to this country legally, over the rights of illegal aliens, where does our citizenry stand?  My guess is, only in America!

The list of belligerent nations that suck up our money and hate our guts is never-ending.  When will U.S. citizens rise up to demand their rights to the enjoy fruits of the land that they have built?   I wish I had the answer to that.  I only know that when that day occurs, the saying, “Only in America” will change to “Only for Americans.”
