Often, it seems that there is no justice in our world. Frauds are perpetrated on an unsuspecting public. Unscrupulous businesspeople reap ill-gotten financial rewards with impunity. Cheating by students is tacitly approved by parents and even some educators as a means to an end.
In such a climate, it takes a wise individual to parse facts, perceive truth, and enforce justice. In Biblical times, King Solomon was renowned for his wisdom as evidenced by the well-known tale of the two women who came to Solomon in a dispute over a child.
In a similar vein, I recently happened upon the following story about justice and thought I would relate it here — Two brothers went to a judge to settle a dispute on the division of the estate left to them by their father. The judge ruled “Let one brother divide the estate and let the other brother have first choice.”
May we in all of our life’s dealings have such wisdom.
