The Dark Secrets of the Bohemian Grove: More Lame Than Sinister

What do Ronald Reagan, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Herbert Hoover, Henry Kissinger, David Gergen, Art Linkletter, William Randolph Hearst, George W. Bush, Barry Goldwater, and Henry Ford all have in common?  The answer is that they all are or were (if they are deceased) members of the Bohemian Club, a private, male-only club with a membership list that has included U.S. presidents, cabinet officials, and chief executives and high-profile leaders of large corporations, leading financial institutions, major military contractors, oil companies, banks (including the Federal Reserve), utilities, and national media.

Conspiracy theorists have linked club members to the Illuminati, the Bilderbergs, and the New World Order and have posited that the objective of the secret society is world dominion.  Alex Jones, syndicated radio talk show host and documentarian, is among those suspicious of the motives of the Bohemian Club’s members.  In 2007, he infiltrated their annual get-together at the Bohemian Grove, a club-owned campground in Monte Rio, California.

His film, Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove, shows a purportedly sacred club ritual – Cremation of Care – in which, according to Jones, an effigy of an infant is burned as a sacrifice to a forty-foot stone owl.  Jones correlates this to a ritual described in The Bible in which infants were immolated in sacrifice to the Canaanite god Molech.  In addition, Jones alludes to sexual rituals and other bizarre goings-on at the Grove.

The Cremation of Care appeared more like a Saturday Night Live skit than a pagan ritual to this viewer.  In fact, it seemed that the members were mockingly saying goodbye to their worldly cares as they commenced what was, for all intents and purposes, a vacation.    This would be in keeping with the club’s motto “Weaving Spiders Come Not Here,” an expression taken from Act 2, Scene 2, of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream implying that worldly concerns and business deals are to be left outside.  The allegations of bizarre sexual behavior at Bohemian Grove, not shown in the film, appear to be more in keeping with the mentality of attendees at a frat party than masters of the universe.

So, is the Bohemian Club and its activities at the Bohemian Grove just a case of wealthy, powerful people letting their collective hair down and hobnobbing with others of the same station of life, or is it a secret organization (perhaps, like KAOS – the international organization of evil of Get Smart fame) bent on world domination?  You can decide for yourself.  Below is the complete documentary (slightly more than two hours) and a more abbreviated version.  I’ll warn you in advance.  If you chose to watch the full version, be prepared to be bored.
