I have waded, on two separate trips, into the warm, pale turquoise waters of Aruba. I’ve left my footprints in the sand of pristine beaches in the Aegean Sea, including the one on Mykonos that the tour guides neglected to mention was a topless beach! Nowadays, I prefer to stay closer to home when I visit the shore. I love Cape May with its crayon-colored gingerbread Victorians and nearby vineyards, but many trips to this lovely seaside Jersey town have made it a bit “same old, same old.” This year, I decided to follow a friend’s suggestion and plan a trip to a new locale: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, renowned for its beautiful beaches and abundant golf courses.
When I go to the shore, I want two things: comfort and luxury. While these elements may seem contradictory, they’re actually not, if you know where to look. In my search for an excellent Myrtle Beach hotel, I found an interesting option: The Horizon at 77th. Built in 2008, the hotel/resort boasts onsite parking, one, two, and three-bedroom suites, indoor and outdoor pools for midnight swims, a lazy river, and even an elevated recreation plaza.
All rooms have comfortable, upscale furnishings. Most, via spacious balconies, provide relaxing vistas of the ocean and the coastline. When I don’t feel like getting gussied up for dinner after a day in the sun, I can toss up a salad or grill a steak in a kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. I can take a glass of wine onto the balcony, watch the sun sink into the horizon, and unwind to the call of the gulls and the murmuring of the sea. If I’m feeling more sociable, the area’s many restaurants will welcome me, as will its diverse emporiums, theaters, parks, museums, and 80 — yes, 80! — golf courses easily accessible from The Horizon at 77th.
Through their website, http://www.horizonmyrtlebeach.com, you can check room availabilities and rates as well as book accommodations that best suit your vacation needs. If you decide upon The Horizon at 77th, I’m confident that you’ll agree that this is one of the Myrtle Beach best hotels!
